Nagaland participates in AKAM closing ceremony in New Delhi
DIMAPUR — Nagaland participated in the Meri Maati Mera Desh, the closing ceremony of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), which was held at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, from October 30 to 31.
The event marked the culmination of AKAM, which commenced on March 12, 2021, to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence, and the launch of the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ portal for the youth of the country by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
According to a press release, altogether 97 volunteers from different parts of Nagaland participated at the closing ceremony held in New Delhi, and soil collected from villages, blocks, and state levels was laid at Amrit Vatika, built at Kartavya Path.
The Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign began in August 2023, with various activities carried out throughout the state. Memorial plaques, or shilaphalakam, with the names of bravehearts inscribed on them were erected, and trees were planted as part of the event in about 1,003 villages in Nagaland, with over 93,000 saplings planted.
The event also saw the launch of the Mera Yuva Bharat platform by the prime minister on October 31, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) is being established as an autonomous body to serve as a one-stop whole-of-government platform for the youth of the country.
It aims to provide equitable opportunities to all youth in the country by leveraging technology to provide an enabling mechanism across the entire spectrum of government and to inspire youth to become community change agents and nation-builders.
A short film on the journey of AKAM was also screened, and a play on ‘Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke’ was performed by the National School of Drama during the closing ceremony.
