Kohima, Oct. 20 (EMN): Oriental College in Kohima, in collaboration with Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), organised its fourth edition of annual Skill Fest 2022 on October 19 at the college auditorium.

An update from the college informed that the director of NSRLM, Imtimenla, inaugurated the fest.

While underlining the objective of the fest, the college’s principal, Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, informed that the fest was organised to help bridge the gap between practice and theory. According to him, the fest aimed at instilling students to think beyond government jobs, to be self-reliant and to lead productive, independent lives after acquiring their degrees.

He stated that the college started life skills and personality development (LSPD) as part of its curriculum in 2017. The fest was conceptionlised after having witnessed adverse impact of advancement and modernisation among younger generations, which led to increased social unrest, disillusionment, rampant unemployment, frustration, and distrust in the system, the principal said.

The Skill Fest ’22 included assistant beauty therapist, baking, pickle making, basket weaving, embroidery, flower arrangement, electrical fitting, masonry, plumbing, and solar panel installation.

Sharing a success story of the college, the principal recounted his conversation with the chairman of the Sakraba Village Council under Chizami block in Phek district. The principal was told that students from the village, who studied in the Oriental College, never stayed idle but earned their own livelihood and live an independent life.

Other highlights of the programme included presentation of song by Angela Tamang, student of B. Com 5th semester, and invocation by Ketuneinuo Khro, chaplain of OCK.
