Nagaland: Only 4 houses sanctioned by MoHUA

Nagaland has been sanctioned four houses by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and an amount of INR 34.19 crore was released during the financial year (2021-22) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).

This was informed by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

It may be mentioned that the MoHUA is implementing the Shelter for Urban Homeless scheme under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) since 2014-15. The scheme provides conducting a systematic third-party survey by the local and municipal bodies to assess accurately the need for shelters at suitable locations.

 According to the minister, a total of 2,45,783 urban homeless persons have been identified in 29 states and UTs so far, including 49 homeless from Nagaland, were identified by states through Party Systematic Survey under Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) scheme of DAY-NULM.

As per census 2011, the number of houseless people in India was 17,73,040 which includes 9,38,348 from urban areas and 8,34,692 from rural areas, and from Nagaland state, there were 876 houseless, including 344 in urban and 532 in rural areas.

He stated that the SUH scheme gives central assistance to states and UTs for providing all-weather pucca houses to all eligible urban households including homeless people.

He stated that the states and UTs have undertaken demand survey under PMAY-U for assessing actual demand of housing. The total assessed demand of houses reported by states/UTs under the scheme was INR 112.24 lakh.

Further, he stated that based on the project proposals submitted by states and UTs, a total of INR 122.69 lakh houses have been sanctioned during the mission period i.e. till March 31, 2022. Against the sanctioned houses, INR 101.94 lakh have been grounded for construction; of which INR 61.15 lakh are completed or delivered to beneficiaries.

He also updated that central assistance of INR 2.03 lakh crore has been approved for construction of approved houses; out of which INR 1.20 lakh crore has been released.
