Dimapur, Sep. 6 (EMN): The oldest school in Zhavame village under Phek district – Government Primary School, Zhavame, which was established on April 1, 1947, commemorated 75 years of its existence on September 5 coinciding with Teachers’ Day celebration at Pame Tsüdu in Zhavame village on the theme “Reflecting forward.”

In his message, former minister, Deo Nukhu, who graced the occasion as the special guest, extended his gratitude to all the past pioneers and congratulated all the present teachers in the village.

“It is quite befitting that the auspicious occasion is being observed on ‘Teachers’ Day,’ which falls on the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – a philosopher, scholar and great teacher,” Nukhu said.

Recalling that way back in 1958, he was also a student of Class B in the same school, he greeted all the alumni who received their basic educational background from GPS Zhavame. Further extending his gratitude to all the teachers, students, village council, VDB, women society, youth society and all the well-wishers for their cooperation and support for the cause of education, he thanked the Almighty God for showering His grace upon the village.

In its platinum souvenir published to mark the celebration, the committee also noted that the GPS, Zhavame, would always stand as a turning point and hallmark in the history of Zhavame village for laying the foundation of education for many people in Razeba area. It also expressed hope that the school would stand as a beacon of hope and continue to produce many capable leaders and impart education for prosperity. The souvenir was formally released by the special guest.

Highlights of the event included invocation by Rev. Akha Shupao, pastor of ZBC, while greetings were shared by Zao Krocha, chairman of Zhavame village council, and Bunyi Zholia, headmaster of GHS Razeba. A brief history of the school was shared by Thekho Shupao, teacher-in-charge of GPS ‘A’ Zhavame, short sharings by Darhü Shupao, alumni and joint secretary of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and C Charles Krocha, head teacher of GMS Zhavame.

Words of acknowledgement was shared by Visapa Movi, vice president of Chakhesang Students’ Union, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Rokovi Movi, president of Zhavame Students’ Union. The programme concluded with a benediction said by Dakhru Rhi, pastor of CRC.

The programme was chaired by Medovi Rhi, NSF education secretary.

The programme was marked with unveiling of the monolith and horn blowing by Rhipri Domeh.
