Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): International Day of Older Persons was observed in different places in Nagaland on October 1 on the theme “The resilience and contributions of older women.”

Longleng: The International Day of Older Persons in LOngleng district was held at PBCA hall in Longleng town with the deputy commissioner of Longleng, Dharam Raj, as the special guest.

CDPO and in-charge of DWO Longleng, T Longlang Luckpan, delivered the welcome address which was followed by an award presentation to senior citizens for 2021-2022.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharam Raj stated that older people should be acknowledged for their contributions. He stated that older people have no hostile motives toward anyone but only hope for good things.

On the occasion, the DC announced that the elder line No. 14567 would provide assistance to older people facing difficulties.

The DC further gave away award to senior citizens for 2021-2022 namely Nyangpen Phom from Tangha village and Pukyung Phom from Hukpang village.

Mokokchung: Office of the district welfare officer, in collaboration with the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Mokokchung, observed the International Day of Older Persons at Ongpangkong Salang, Mokokchung.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung and special guest, Shashank Pratap Singh, mentioned that elderly citizens in the society need special attention for their overall well-being. He added that the government has come out with various schemes to meet those challenges.

On the occasion, distinguished senior citizens’ awards were presented to Dr. Tiameren Ao and Temsula Lemtur. A medical camp was also held for the elderly to mark the occasion.

Tuensang: International Day of Older Persons in Tuensang town was observed at town hall with its deputy commissioner, Kumar Ramnikant, as the special guest. The celebration was jointly organised by the district Social Welfare and Health and Family Welfare departments.

To mark the occasion, a special health camp and free legal camp was organised by the Health department and Tuesang DLSA.

On the occasion, the oldest lady T Amenla Sangtam and the oldest man Longkhangba Yimkhiung were feliciated.

Peren: The International Day of Older Persons in Peren district was observed at GBs’ hall in Peren town with the ADC of Peren, Keyirangding Hegui, as the special geust.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC has acknowledged the elderly people for their contributions in imparting social values, which according to him, are much needed for the younger generation.

During the programme, two distinguished senior citizens namely Dineu Ndang (85) and Wepenyi-U Ndang (90) from Peren district were felicitated with awards by the Social Welfare department in recognition of their contribution to society.

Meluri: Meluri Village Council observed the International Day of Older Persons, wherein its chairman, Chiilekhu Nyusou, expressed happiness on the large turnout of older people to the programme. He urged the older people to live beautiful and contented lives and to show a good example to the younger generations.

Altogether, 155 older persons in the Meluri area including 82 males and 73 females attended the programme.

Diphupar: Office of the district social welfare observed the International Day for Older Persons at Diphupar in Chümoukedima district on the theme “Resilience of older persons in a changing world.”

The programme was chaired by Sentimenla Pongen, CDPO (DWO i/c), Niuland District, while an invocation prayer was pronounced by Kitoho Achumi, pastor of Toluvi Ghami Baptist Akukuhou.

During the ceremony, distinguished senior citizens award, comprising of a special recognition certificate and a cash award were awarded to Neisekhrieü Shüya and N Hozheto respectively for their lifetime contribution toward the society.
