DIMAPUR: Kids’ Athletics Day, organised by Nagaland Athletics Association under the directive of Athletics Federation of India, was observed at State Sports Training Centre, Nagarjan, Dimapur, on Tuesday.
As the country celebrates the first Kids’ Athletics Day, Nagaland also witnessed about 152 students from 16 schools participating in the event held in Dimapur.
The special guest of the day, Binthungo Kikon, president of Dimapur Athletics, shared that normal children have lots of energy and they become restless, and so parents and teachers must understand why they feel restless at their age.
He also said the event is to use the power of athletics to inspire children wherever they are and develop their skills and connect them with sports for life.
He reiterated that sports will help instill discipline and determination in children, which are also the most important traits for them to do well in studies.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Further, Kikon appealed to the parents and schools to give equal importance to sports as in studies.
Secretary of Nagaland Athletics Association, Khriehutuo Tsira, in his keynote address stated that kids’ athletics is one of the biggest grassroots development programme in the world of sports.
He shared that the aim of the event is to use the power of athletics to inspire children and young people all over the word to get moving, be more active, to develop their skills and confidence and to connect with sports and physical activities for life.
The winners were given incentives along with certificates and all the participants also received participation certificates.
