Nagaland: Now Covid-19 cases among traced contacts higher than returnees’

For the first time since the pandemic arrived in Nagaland, the number of positive cases among traced contacts has surpassed that of returnees.

According to data provided by the state’s department of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday, the positive cases among traced contacts rose to 1574; trumping the 1523 cases among returnees.

For weeks now, the department has been issuing warnings and advisories to the citizens with reminders that the recent spike of cases among traced contacts in the state is a cause for worry.

As per the segregation of cases, 3101 (47%) are security forces personnel, 1574 traced contacts, 1523 returnees, 354 frontline workers.

Meanwhile, 123 fresh Covid-19 cases were detected on Sunday in Nagaland, taking the state’s overall figure to 6552.

The minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, informed that 74 out of the 123 were from Dimapur, 48 from Kohima and one from Longleng.

Fifty-one patients were discharged from Covid hospitals on the day, he added.

As per information provided by the state’s Health department, there are 1221 active cases currently.

So far, Nagaland has recorded 5258 recoveries and 12 deaths.

Five of the 12 death cases have been declared as ‘not Covid-related’, while another five are under investigation, it stated.

In his daily briefing, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha informed that as per the severity of symptoms, 1176 active cases are asymptomatic; 41 active cases, mild; three active cases, moderate; and one active case, severe.
