DoF&ES informs on forest fire
DIMAPUR — The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services (DoF&ES) has stated that despite efforts by fire fighters, village volunteers, district administration, and police, indiscriminate forest burning by hunters, campers, and miscreants continues during the dry season, posing a threat to residential areas. The DoF&ES reiterated that the department can only attend to forest fires near human settlements, and that the state government, district administration, and Forest department have been issuing notifications banning forest fires due to their ecological impact, a DIPR report stated. The public and village councils have been requested to prevent indiscriminate burning and take action against those responsible. In 2025, Nagaland saw 188 forest fire cases, with Kohima district reporting 91 cases, sparking concern, the report added.
NSCN (YA) and ULFA-I to boycott R-Day
The NSCN/GPRN (YA) AND ULFA-I have decided to boycott the Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26 in Wesea Region. In a joint press statement, the two groups stated that the “imposed Republic Day celebration” in the occupied region remains not only a practice of hypocrisy, but also a disgraceful endeavour to propagate Indian nationalism. “To honour this day is to honour the symbol of Indian supremacy, and justify India's merciless military campaigns in the region. In fact the 26th January is a celebration of imperialism and genocide by a state who claimed to be the world's largest democracy,” it stated. The joint-boycott will be effective in the “so-called states” of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur, the statement added.
