DIMAPUR — Acting on a tip about extortionists demanding money from business establishments in Kohima town, the North PS and district anti-extortion team, led by SDPO (North) Kohima, conducted an operation and successfully arrested one person identified as S Timothy Swu (28), an active member of NPGN/NNC (non-accord), and his accomplice identified as Nokget Konyak (25) on November 18,. According to another update by Kohima Police, personnel of the Khuzama Police at the inter-state check gate detected and recovered 50 soap cases of suspected heroin weighing approximately 600 gram, which were concealed in a car (Hyundai i20) coming from Manipur, during a routine check of vehicles on November 19. One Md. Wahidur (30) has been arrested in this connection.

NSCN (IM) mourns demise of members

DIMAPUR —The NSCN (IM) has condoled the recent demise of Ch. Seizu, Razou Peyu, Phaibung Khunou village of Shepoumaramth Region, and Sergeant Wangnam Angh, Moba Brigade Naga Army, Konyak Region. In a condolence note, the group stated that the NSCN/GPRN is deeply grateful for their dedicated services and spirit of sacrifice for the cause of the Naga political issue. It expressed condolences to their families and friends and prayed that God grant the deceased eternal peace!

Canara Bank awards scholarships

DIMAPUR —Canara Bank, Mokokchung Branch, at N I Jamir Govt. Hr. Secondary School and Mayangnokcha Govt. Hr. Secondary School, provided a one-time scholarship to meritorious girl students belonging to ST/SC category as part of its corporate social responsibility activity under the Canara Vidyajyoti Scheme, which aims at encouraging education among girls in the ST/SC community. According to an update, a total of eight students from classes 7 to 10 received the scholarship.

GPRN/NSCN greets Garos on Wangala

DIMAPUR —The GPRN/NSCN, Naga Unification Camp, has extended greetings to the Garo community on the occasion of the Wangala festival. According to the GPRN/NSCN, the Wangala festival of Nagaland is a prominent celebration among the state’s Garos and represents the culmination of a time of work that results in a successful harvest in the fields, as well as the beginning of winter. It wished for the festival to bring love, peace, joy, and happiness.

2 NAP Bn. Alichen conducts livelihood training

KOHIMA — The 2 NAP Bn. Alichen conducted a training programme for the unit personnel and family members on sustainable livelihood options through scientific piggery production and management in association with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mokokchung region on November 19. An update from the unit informed that the resource persons for the seminar were Dr. Ajungla Lipok, Dr. Sarendi Walling, and others. Experts from the department also provided information on mushroom cultivation and agro products on the occasion, and medicines were distributed.

NLA COPU to inspect Hotel Japfu

DIMAPUR —Advisor of Information and Public Relations; Soil and Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen, who is also the Chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) for the year 2023-2024 has announced a proposal to undertake an “On-the-Spot” verification to study and inspect the status of Hotel Japfu, Kohima, at 11 am on November 24. All the members of COPU have been asked to take part in the crucial visit.

Village councils in Mokokchung asked to nominate member

DIMAPUR —The General Manager of District Industries Centre, Mokokchung, has issued a notification requesting all the chairmen of village councils in the district and ward authorities in Mokokchung, to nominate and submit a member for verification of PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries under their respective jurisdictions, at the earliest. Camp for identification, benchmarking of PwD electors announced

DIMAPUR —In connection with the on-going special summary revision of photo electoral roll, 2024, the deputy commissioner and district election officer of Kohima, in collaboration with the Medical department, is organising a three-day special camp for identification and benchmarking of registered PwD electors under Kohima district (i.e 40% or more disability) from 10 am to 2 pm, between November 22 and the 24th at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). All the registered PwD electors for benchmarking under Kohima district have been requested to avail the opportunity and present before the Medical authority for examination and further necessary action. DIPR convenes meeting for press accreditation committee

DIMAPUR —The directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has convened a meeting of the State Press Accreditation Committee members at 2 pm on November 22 at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall to discuss about new applications for accreditation to the government of Nagaland and other related issues. All the concerned members have requested to attend the meeting.

State-level debate competition held in Dimapur

DIMAPUR —A state level debate competition was held on November 17 at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, to commemorate Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2023. According to an update, Liang Yanna of Little Star Higher Secondary School won the first prize in the competition. The first runner up was Rongsennang Ba of Little Star Higher Secondary School, while the second runner up was Avilhu Meyase of Holy Higher Secondary School.
