EDTC warns against MRP violations
DIMAPUR — The Rate Control and Quality Maintenance Committee of the East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has directed all business establishments within its jurisdiction to strictly refrain from selling goods above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) and from stocking or selling expired products. In a notification, the committee instructed shopkeepers, traders, wholesalers, retailers and all other business establishments to ensure strict compliance with laws relating to pricing and product expiry. It stated that regular inspections would be conducted across the EDTC jurisdiction to monitor adherence to these regulations. Any individual or business establishment found charging above the MRP or selling expired items would face strict legal action, including penalties and fines. The EDTC appealed to all business establishments to cooperate in safeguarding consumer rights and maintaining fair trade practices in the interest of the general public.
Mokokchung to host anti-drug awareness rally
Mokokchung will witness a massive youth awareness rally and wellness programme on June 30 in observance of World No Drug Day 2026. Organised by the Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation (RERF), a sister organisation of the Brahma Kumaris, in collaboration with 12 Assam Rifles, the event is themed “Drug abuse prevention and value-based living.” According to a DIPR report, the programme will begin at 10 am at the Assam Rifles Ground, with Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma attending as the chief guest. Senior neurologist and narcotics specialist Dr. Swapan Gupta from New Delhi will deliver a talk on the medical and psychological effects of substance abuse. An awareness rally will be flagged off after the session, proceeding through the town and concluding at Police Point near Ao Baptist Church, promoting a strong message against drug abuse and encouraging value-based living. The public, especially students and youth groups, has been invited to participate.
Tseminyu gears up for Census 2027
Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, has informed all residents of the district that the first phase of Census 2027 will be conducted from July 1 to the 30th. According to a DIPR report, the DC has requested all residents to extend full cooperation to the enumerators and supervisors in their respective assigned blocks. Woch emphasised that every resident is legally bound to cooperate with census officials by allowing them access to their houses, permitting the painting or affixing of necessary letters, marks or numbers on properties, and answering all census-related questions correctly and truthfully to the best of their knowledge. The DC further stated that any person who obstructs or hinders census officials in the discharge of their duties by refusing to answer questions, denying access to property, providing false information, or trespassing into census offices commits a punishable offence and shall be liable for prosecution under the Census Act, 1948, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
