Dimapur flood review meeting
DIMAPUR — A meeting under the chairmanship of the state chief secretary will be held at Circuit House, Dimapur, on May 18 to review and assess recurring flood-affected sites within Dimapur and East Dimapur areas. According to a circular issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and chairman, DDMA Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, the meeting has been convened in pursuance of instructions from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department. All concerned departments and organisations have been directed to be present at Circuit House, Dimapur, on May 18 at 9:30 am. The departments informed to attend the meeting include the Commissioner of Police, administrative officers, CEO DMC, Water Resources, Urban Development, EE PHED, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, chairman DMC, chairman East Dimapur Town Council, and the DPRO.
DIET Chiechama marks Spring Fest
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Chiechama, Kohima, organised a four-day ‘SPRING FEST’ from May 12 to 15 to welcome the spring season and celebrate cultural diversity, promote teamwork and creativity, and encourage student-teachers in various artistic talents such as music, literature and dance. According to an update, the highlights of the programme included elocution, extempore, creative singing competition, creative writing, quiz, folk song, indigenous games and indigenous cuisine competition.
NPCB inspects Atoizu dumping site
A team led by Akangmeren Imchen (Scientist C) from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) conducted a presentation on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, on May 14 at the office chamber of the chairperson, Atoizu Town Council (ATC), for district administration officials, councillors and staff of the town council. According to a DIPR report, the programme focused on proper municipal solid waste management practices, environmental protection measures, waste segregation, scientific disposal mechanisms, and the responsibilities of Urban Local Bodies under the applicable environmental laws and regulations. Following the presentation, the team also visited the waste dumping site under the jurisdiction of the ATC, with EAC Atoizu and town councillors, for field inspection and assessment of the existing waste management system and disposal practices.
ADC Medziphema announces pre-monsoon cleanup drive
In view of the onset of the monsoon season, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, James Swu, has issued a circular announcing a mass social work programme on May 21 from 6 am onwards as part of pre-monsoon preparedness measures. The cleanliness drive will focus on unclogging drainage systems, clearing construction materials and debris, removing overgrown foliage, proper waste disposal, and cleaning public spaces and utilities. As per the directive, all shops and business establishments will remain closed from 6 am to 12 noon. Heads of offices and institutions have been instructed to mobilise staff to clean their premises and surrounding areas, while residents are encouraged to organise cleanliness drives in their respective localities, lanes, and roads. Shopkeepers along public roads have also been directed to clean adjacent drains and roads. Town councillors, village councils, and colony GBs will supervise the drive, while the Medziphema Town Council and village councils will oversee garbage and debris disposal.
