Northfield School celebrates cultural day

KOHIMA — Northfield School, Kohima, celebrated cultural day on Monday with the theme ‘A celebration of our cultural mores’. On the occasion, the red ribbon club performed ‘Avu Nei Hu Ca’ while the culture club presented ‘Thie Zha Zo Di Ca’ and ‘Hoi Hoi’. The agri club displayed traditional games, and the science club had a 3D presentation on cultural facets. The literature club highlighted indigenous practices and the marketing club shared ‘The Tale of Sarilungle’. The dance club performed a Hula dance, and the art and craft club exhibited ‘Attires from the Naga Hills’. The eco club showcased modern ethnic wear, and the music club performed ‘God Bless Nagaland’. (Our Correspondent)

Dy. CM Patton extends Ahuna greetings

DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Y Patton, has greeted the Sumi community on the occasion of Ahuna. In a note, Patton said that the post-harvest festival is a great time for merry-making and thanksgiving. “It is also a time for coming together to showcase their beautiful folk dances and folk music to mark the unity,” the note read. The Dy. CM also conveyed heartfelt festive greetings on behalf of the state BJP legislators and prayed that it be celebrated in grand manner. 

Microlight aircraft simulator inaugurated at ECC

DIMAPUR — Major General Gagan Deep, ADG NCC Dte NER, inaugurated a microlight aircraft simulator at Eastern Christian College (ECC), Padumpukhuri, Dimapur, on Sunday. According to an update, the simulator installed at ECC is the first of its kind in the North East Region and is designed with features similar to the SW-80 ‘Virus’ Microlite Aircraft that the cadets will fly. All of the switches, controls, instrument panels, and so on are exact replicas of the Virus Aircraft. In addition, as part of the 75th Raising Day, the NCC Car Rally North East Region made a pit stop at the college premises, where the ADG interacted with 630 cadets from Dimapur. The ADG expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the college for hosting such a grand event.

Sümi Baptist Convention to organise Bible study, quiz

DIMAPUR — The Sümi Baptist Convention, in consultation with the denominational heads of the Sümi Churches, is scheduled to hold a one-day Sümi Pastors Bible Study and Bible Quiz programme on November 22 at Trinity Theological College in Thahekhu, Dimapur. According to an update, the programme will begin at 9 am with Dr. Kiyeho Sema leading the Bible Study on the book of Amos and Dr. Hutton Sema serving as the Quiz Master. Hoto Yeptho will exhort the audience. Pastors of all denominations have been invited to attend the programme by the Sümi Baptist Convention.

Spot inspection of Dimapur bypass on Nov. 15

DIMAPUR — The joint spot inspection of Dimapur bypass (Nagaland portion) and the Dimapur-Kohima 4-lane National Highway (packages I and II) has been rescheduled for November 15 at 11 am. According to an update from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, the inspection will consist of the DC; revenue officer of Chümoukedima; general manager (projects) of PMU-Dimapur, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited; district public relations officer of Chümoukedima; authority’s engineer; and general manager of the EPC Contractor. The team will gather at Patkai junction before commencing the spot inspection on the scheduled day.

Night carnival of Ahuna festival opens

DIMAPUR — Advisor for Land Resource, G. Ikuto Zhimomi, inaugurated Night Carnival of Ahuna festival cum Zunheboto district golden jubilee celebration at Zunheboto public ground on November 11. An update from DIPR informed that Zunheboto is celebrating 50 years of its districthood-cum-Ahuna festival from November 11 to the 14th.

Statistical Research Centre inaugurated at Kohima Science College

DIMAPUR — Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, inaugurated a Statistical Research Centre at Kohima Science College’s New Building (Red Square) on October 31. According to an update, Md. Jakir Ali, the head of the Department of Statistics, delivered the welcome address on the occasion and provided an overview of the objectives behind establishing the new research centre. He pointed out the increasing significance of statistics in recent times, emphasising their vital role in crafting well-rounded economic, agricultural, and industrial policies that benefit the state specifically and the country at large. Dr. Temjenwabang, in his speech at the inauguration, highlighted the importance of up-to-date and accurate data collection, coupled with thorough statistical analysis through the use of sophisticated software.

NSCN/GPRN extends Ahuna greetings

DIMAPUR — The NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) has extended its greetings on the joyous occasion of ‘Ahuna’ festival celebrated by the Sumis. The group stated in a note that the festival, which takes place on November 14 and coincides with ‘International Children’s Day,’ is a post-harvest festival for offering thanksgiving and gratitude to the Almighty for a bountiful year. It is stated that while the festival is displayed in exuberant cultural activities, one of the main highlights of it is the grand procession of Mithun, which represents social prosperity. Another major highlight is to cook freshly harvested rice in the ‘bamboo pole’ and share it, it said. It prayed for the community to prosper and to be a guiding force in strength, unity, and social bonding.
