Nagaland: New bridges over Chathe and Dhansiri opened in Dimapur

Two long-awaited bridges, RCC girder bridge over Chathe River at Diphupar-A and another RCC girder bridge over Dhansiri River at Nagarjan (Kuda B Khel), were opened on Monday in Dimapur.

During the inauguration programme, Commissioner and Secretary for PWD (Works and Housing), Rovilatuo Mor informed that INR 37.66 crore was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in July 2015 for the construction of RCC girder bridge at Diphupar. The work was awarded to M/S Naagaamii Infratech Pvt. Ltd. in 2016.

For the bridge at Nagarjan, Mor informed, the union ministry sanctioned INR 37.95 crore in July 2015. Work was awarded to the same construction firm in June 2016.

According to Mor, though no records were available, the old bridge at Nagarjan was constructed by the British. He suggested preserving it as ‘heritage structure’.

After inaugurating the bridges, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, who holds the additional charge of Home and PWD (Roads and Bridges), expressed gratitude Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for providing additional fund ‘to ensure that the bridges are motor-able before Christmas’.

He also acknowledged Minister for PHED Jacob Zhimomi and Advisor to sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio for their support.

Patton said that the project would not have materialised without the consent and support of the landowners and appreciated the surrounding villages, area leaders, residents for rendering their support.

Further, Patton announced that the bridge at Ballijan also became operational on the same day.
