Says it is alive to current political situation and making all efforts to play the role of an active facilitator

Dimapur, Oct. 21 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has refuted allegations by opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) that its leadership has been instigating Nagas to go for a solution at any cost, regardless of whether a separate flag and constitution is given to the Nagas.

The party issued a statement on Monday dismissing the allegation as absurd and ridiculous. “Such irresponsible utterances are absolutely reprehensible and unbecoming of a matured political party like the NPF. Neither the NDPP nor the government it heads are parties to the ongoing dialogue; the talks have always been left to the negotiating parties to work out a mutually-acceptable formula that is honourable, democratic and long-lasting,” it stated.

The party is alive to the situation and making all efforts to play the role of an active facilitator, it added.

The chief minister and other members of the Cabinet including the elected representatives have continuously held deliberations and consultations with all sections of stakeholders regularly, the party reminded.

“In fact, an official NDPP delegation led by the chief minister and the party president had even called on the governor to deliberate on the prevailing political scenario. We have assured the interlocutor of our support for the talks while calling for an early and honourable solution.

“PDA leaders led by the chief minister and NDPP leaders have also consistently met and held consultations with the negotiating parties and representatives of the government of India to engage with them and find ways to create a congenial environment for the talks to make positive progress. What has the NPF done apart from issuing venomous press statements filled with personalised attacks? At this crucial time, should we not be putting the Naga political issue above everything else?” read the statement.

The party asserted that there is absolutely no question of giving conditions or suggestion on the competencies of the solution as neither the NDPP nor the PDA and the state government are a direct party to the ongoing negotiations.

“The Naga issue is above individual or organisation, and at such a crucial juncture, no one should throw spanners in the hard works put in by all negotiating parties which could jeopardise the entire peace process. The NDPP supports the early resolution of the decades old Indo-Naga political problem in a manner that is honourable and democratic and respects the unique history of the Nagas.

“We support the principles of the ‘framework agreement’ and assure the Naga people that we will respect the feelings and sentiments of the masses. The Naga political issue is above all else and the NPF and its habitual lying leaders should refrain from using this issue to score cheap political points,” it stated.

“It is also the clarion call of the NDPP to all Nagas to continue in upholding the ongoing negotiations in our prayers since the talks have come to an extremely crucial juncture that will determine the future of all Naga generations,” it added.
