Nagaland medical college progressing satisfactorily, observes High Court

Kohima, Oct. 20 (EMN): The Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench has observed that the progress of establishing the medical college in Kohima is “satisfactory” so far and on the “right track”.
This was observed by Justice Songkhupchung Serto and Justice Kakheto Sema after hearing the report submitted before the court on Oct. 19 by the inspection team for the medical college.
The inspection team consisting of counsels TB Jamir, Tongpok Pongener, Joshua Sheqi, and Apila Sangtam inspected the medical college on Oct. 15 in the presence of Neiteo Koza, counsel for the petitioners ZN Ngullie; CGC, N Mozhui, counsel for the Health Department, and Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare.
The report pointed out that the state’s share for the project, which amounts to INR 18.90 crore, is yet to be released.
‘If that(state’s share) is not released, the project may not be completed in time,’ it said.
Taking note of the work, the HC directed the chief secretary to file an affidavit on or before the next date stating as to when the state’s share would be released.
It directed the stakeholders to ensure that the tempo of the work is maintained so that the project is completed on time.
The report also stated that the medical college building would be completed by March, 2023 but the minimum requirement as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) norms for issuance of LoP for starting a medical college would be completed by the first week of November 2022.
The boys’ and girls’ hostel, which will have the capacity of 250 persons, would be completed by March 2023 but the minimum requirement as per the NMC norms (100 seats along with kitchen, dining hall and other basic amenities) would be completed by first week of November 2022, report added.
The report further stated that the sports complex, residences of MS and dean were completed 100%.
For the 100 sq.mt apartments (four blocks) and 200 sq.mt apartments, which are required for housing the faculty members, the report stated that the work progress is 90-95% and 45-50% respectively.
The report also stated that the team was assured that the minimum requirement as per the NMC norms would be completed by the first week of November 2022 and the entire work would be completed by March 2023.
As for the road construction within the compound, the report mentioned that it will be completed by the end of this month.
