Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): Dimapur Police finally arrested Ronika Miachieo, the main accused in the physical and mental abuse case of three minors, at around 10 pm on November 6, after evading arrest for days.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) and PRO Dimapur, Bharat Laxman Markad, told Eastern Mirror that Miachieo had been arrested and is currently under police custody in Dimapur.
It came four days after her co-accused Amos Ezung was arrested in connection with the case.
The police officer had earlier informed this newspaper that the three victims – a 9-year-old girl, 10-year-old and 13-year-old boys – from Longwa village were rescued from the house of Miachieo on October 19 after the torture came to light when a relative of one of the victims was not allowed to meet them.
A case was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Juvenile Justice Act and Child Labour Provision Act, at the Women Police Station on October 31, when the victims’ families lodge a complaint two weeks after the incident happened.
Longwa Village Council seeks justice
The Longwa Village Council (LVC) on Monday thanked the Dimapur Police, Child Welfare Committee Dimapur, Konyak Union Dimapur, Phomching Area Union Dimapur, Wayen Union Dimapur, press, YouTube channels, organisations and individuals who contributed in tracking down the main accused in torture case involving three minors from the village.
“We also acknowledge Eden Hospital Authority for treating the injured minors for free. We extend words of gratitude to all concerned and also wish them good health so that they can continue to contribute towards a good cause and towards a better society,” read LVC’s press note.
It also appealed to the law enforcing authority and the state government to give a befitting punishment to the two accused, saying that only then they have a ‘slight feeling of justice’.
“We would also like to warn against bailing out of the culprits at any cost without consulting the offices of Konyak Union Dimapur, Phomching Area Union Dimapur, Longwa Village Council and Longwa Students’ Union,” it stated, adding that it would react if the “culprits” are freed before completing the ‘full fail term’.
“We are of the hope that every parent and every Naga people will continue to stand with us in this regard, given the heinous crime the culprits have committed,” it continued.
