Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): Forest personnel in Dimapur have finally captured the leopard, which had killed livestock in the past week at Purana Bazaar-B village and its nearby area. In a statement issued on Friday, the wildlife warden of Dimapur informed that the animal was captured on Friday. It is currently under veterinary care at Nagaland Zoological Park, it was informed.

“Investigation, monitoring and surveillance via trail cameras was followed upon by the wildlife wing along with the assistance of village council members and GB of Purana Bazaar-B. Based on specific inputs of sporadic and continual loss of grazing livestock on village lands and its proximity to urban human habitation, the call was taken to trap and relocate the animal.

“Surveillance over the period showed a lone adult male leopard in the area and hence it may now be safely concluded that the vicinity is free from any leopard menace,” it informed.

The warden thanked the GBs, village council members and volunteers from Purana Bazaar-B and the surrounding villages for their assistance “and for heeding the advisory.”
