DIMAPUR — Host state Nagaland took the early lead in the medal tally on day one of the 3rd North East Games 2024 by winning 17 medals, including 8 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze.

The defending overall champions, Manipur, followed closely with 16 medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze, while Assam won 18 medals, including 4 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze.

Various competitions were held across three districts — Kohima, Chümoukedima and Dimapur — on Tuesday, a day after a glittering opening ceremony at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence in Sovima, Chümoukedima.

More than 3000 sportspersons from eight north-eastern states are vying for over 1400 medals in 15 sports disciplines. The sporting extravaganza will conclude on March 23.
