DIMAPUR — Social Welfare Department on Saturday launched the Poshan Maah campaign 2024 by organising a plantation drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (plant for mother).
Rashtriya Poshan Maah is celebrated during the month of September every year. Since the launch of Poshan Abhiyaan in 2018 by the prime minister, 6 Poshan Maahs have been successfully celebrated across the country in convergence with multiple ministries/ departments across the states and union territories.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was launched by the prime minister on June 5 commemorating the World Environment Day.
The goal of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ was to create a safer environment for future generations by reducing global warming, improving air quality and balancing the environment. The campaign was based on the idea that the bond between a mother and her child is the most precious in the world.
An update from the Social Welfare department stated that its secretary, Martha Ritse, led the plantation drive.
Other participants included Olemjungla Aier, project director of Poshan Abiyaan and joint secretary of Social Welfare; Bodeno S Colo, additional secretary; Tosheli Zhimomi, director of Social Welfare; officers and staff of Social Welfare department; SPMU Poshan Abhiyaan team and Anganwadi workers.
Report stated that district social welfare and block officers along with the Anganwadi workers participated in the plantation drive in the district, block and Anganwadi centres across the state.
It mentioned that under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, behavioural change at individual and community level is an important component to achieve the desired goal of Suposhit Bharat.
In pursuance of this objective, Rashtriya PoshanMaah is celebrated during the month of September every year.
It stated that the department of Social Welfare, in convergence with the departments of Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development–NSRLM, School Education, AYUSH, Horticulture, Forest and Climate Change, Agriculture and local administration would celebrate Poshan Maah 2024 during September on five themes namely ‘Anaemia,’ ‘Growth monitoring,’ ‘Complementary feeding,’ ‘Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi’ and ‘Use of technology for better governance.’
