DIMAPUR — A three-day foundational training programme for teachers designated as “career teachers” in PM SHRI schools began at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Kohima, on Wednesday, aimed at strengthening career counselling support for students.
The training, organised under Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, is intended to equip teachers to guide students in making informed career choices based on their aptitude and skills.
Addressing the participants during the introductory session, State Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, L Jamithung Lotha, said career counselling support in schools could help address concerns arising from the State’s unemployment rate of 27.4%, which he said is higher than the national average.
Lotha appreciated Antarang Foundation, Mumbai, and YouthNet for partnering with the Department of School Education in implementing the career counselling programme for students in PM SHRI schools. He encouraged the teachers identified as career teachers to take up the responsibility seriously and assist students in choosing meaningful career paths.
