Nagaland: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mon organises kisan mela
Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mon, organised a kisan mela under Jal Shakti Abhiyan in its campus on October 27 with the additional deputy commissioner of Aboi, Anoka H Assumi, as the special guest.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Assumi has sought community participation for conservation of water to strengthen water security. He highlighted on the various scheme and programmes of the government for water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional water bodies and intensive afforestation.
He further called upon the farmers to inculcate technical knowledge on water conservation to improved productivity of crop and accelerate their socio-economic condition and also seek technical guidance from the subject expert of the KVK.
Dr. Roupfuselhou Kehie, ACTO (plant protection) and chairperson of the programme, explained on the objective of the programme, while the keynote address was delivered by Zhiete Kapfo, ACTO (soil conservation), and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Renbemo Ngullie, ACTO (horticulture).
Later, the special guest inaugurated the farmer stalls and appreciated them for showcasing their products.
Highlights of the mela included display of technology know-how posters, mini soil testing kits and electronic machines, farm machineries and implements, and distribution of potato tubers seeds to the farmers.
In the technical session, Renbemo Ngullie spoke on the cultivation practices and intercultural operation management of potato crop, while Dr. Roupfuselhou Kehie spoke on integrated pest and diseases control measures, and Zhiete Kapfo spoke on the rain water harvesting and conservation technique.
Report stated a total of 24 SHG from 9 villages participated at the kisan mela.
