Nagaland: Kohima citizens participate in ‘Fit India Freedom Run’

Kohima, Oct. 1 (EMN): To promote the culture of fitness and a healthy lifestyle in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kohima Smart City Development Limited  (KSCDL), in collaboration Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and supported by the Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&Gs), the citizens of Kohima participated in the ‘Fit India freedom movement run’ on October 1.

The ‘Fit India freedom movement run’ was flagged-off by the senior superintendent of police, Kohima, Kevithuto Sophie at PHQ Junction. The event witnessed active participation of Kohima citizens from the 19 wards, taking part in cycling, running and walking till Khouchiezhie (local ground) led by the administrator of KMC, Kovi Meyase, along with other officials.

The joint chief executive officer of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), Avelu Ruho, said that the event was a conglomeration of three events of the central ministry. She stated that the ‘Fit India freedom movement run’ was launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS) in the month of August to encourage the citizens of the entire country to adopt healthy lifestyle to walk/ run for 2 km per day. The second programme ‘Cycle for change,’ which was launched on July 10 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) was to encourage adopting a healthy lifestyle and the next programme of the MOHUA was the ‘closure of yearlong commemoration of the 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’.

She stated that in the wake of pandemic, people have realised the importance of staying healthy. She informed that the organisers were encouraged by the huge participation of citizens on the event.

The official said that Kohima cycle for change is doing well among the 100 smart cities and had been invited to speak as a panellist at national webinars, adding that the cycle for change movement would continue.

Ruho further informed that ‘streets for people’ initiatives that was launched on September 11 with the objectives to create more space for people and people friendly streets related activities would also be rolled out.
