Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): Following recognition on the ‘unique history of the Nagas’ by the government of India, Nagaland unit of the Janata Dal United (JDU) maintained that any solution to the Naga problem must address the symbolic issues particularly the flag and constitution in such dimensions honourable to the negotiating groups.

A JDU press release issued by its publicity wing has expressed concern over activities of certain Naga individuals and political leaders, who are trying to deviate from such core issues with an intention to vitiate the fragile mind of the Naga populace. Alleging certain Naga leaders of desperately trying to woo the innocent Nagas with high sounding economic and developmental packages, it urged such people to refrain from misleading the people.

“Naga cause is very dear and therefore, no individual or groups must indulge so as to make gains for themselves or please others at the higher helms for intended political mileage,” it stated.

Nagaland JDU also reminded the national workers to refrain from indulging in the electoral process being conducted under the Indian Constitution. It felt that such intervention, officially or otherwise, would only downgrade the noble status of the Naga national movement and create disdain in the minds of the Naga public towards the Naga political struggle.

“If there are elements within the national workers who have the tendency to indulge, they must come out and openly participate in the electoral process, instead of acting in camouflage or de facto for their individual gains and causing a bad image to the whole issue,” it added.

It further urged those ‘so-called’ national workers, who are using Naga national movement as an industry for their selfish interest, to desist from such action.
