Nagaland JD(U) demands resignations of ministers, advisors
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland unit of the Janata Dal United has expressed its disappointment over the defeat of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland and has called for the resignation of the ministers and advisors, as well as the top ranks and files of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on moral grounds.
In a press communiqué, the party pointed out that the results from all 40 assembly constituencies indicate that the NDPP candidate won only in 13 constituencies, while the remaining 27 constituencies favoured the Indian National Congress (INC).
It stated that it is ‘shameful’ that only four, including the chief minister, from the entire cabinet could win for the NDPP candidate in their respective constituencies, and only five from the numerous advisors from the present dispensation could win for him.
It sought that “those ministers and advisors who have been reduced to minorities in their own constituencies” must resign on moral grounds, and that the chief minister must reflect on the results and take necessary actions against those responsible for the defeat.
Furthermore, the JD(U) appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the coalition spirit in Nagaland as per the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) principle at the centre and to accommodate legislators from different political parties who are part of the NDA at the centre.
In a separate press release, the party extended congratulations to INC candidate Supongmeren Jamir for winning the lone parliamentary seat from the state.
While maintaining that the party supported the candidature of PDA consensus candidate Dr. Chumben Murry wholeheartedly, it blamed “the callousness of the major parties of the PDA” for the failure of the NDPP candidate.
It alleged that the superiority complex manifested to such an extent that not even a single all-party presidential meeting was convened during the entire course of the campaign and that the entire planned campaign strategy was closely guarded by a few individuals, keeping the other political parties in the dark.
Stating that all the legislators of the parties in the opposition-less government need to take moral responsibility, it added that those at the highest helm of affairs must accept a bigger responsibility and further acknowledge the harsh reality that the majority of the Naga public is not in favour of the present dispensation.
