Kohima, Jan. 25 (EMN): The Nagaland In-Service Doctors' Association (NIDA) wore black armbands as a symbolic protest against the government's failure to enhance superannuation age as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016.
NIDA president Dr. E Phyantsuthung told Eastern Mirror on Monday that medical practitioners across the state sported black armbands to protest against non-implementation of the Centre’s decision to enhance the retirement age of doctors to 65 years in view of acute shortage of doctors in the country as well as to retain their medical experience for a longer period.
The protest was peaceful and normal healthcare delivery system not disturbed.
"We will be continuing to wear black armbands as we protest but the normal service will not be affected," the doctor said, adding that the association will carry on with their demonstration until the government give them assurance.
It may be mentioned that as many as 27 states across the country have enhanced the retirement age of doctors.
