Nagaland imposes travel restrictions on NH-2, NH-29 amid road damage caused by rains

DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has issued a travel advisory to commuters taking the NH-2, in view of the ‘damage in the abutment of a minor bridge at Ch.KM 200+950 Kohima-Mao Road’ near (BPCL) E-service station Jakhama, caused by heavy rains.

In an order, the DC imposed several restrictions on vehicular movement over the affected bridge with immediate effect till further notice.

Restrictions

  • Vehicular traffic over the bridge for heavy motor vehicle beyond 12 tonnes shall remain suspended.
  • Vehicular traffic over the bridge for all types of vehicles shall be closed from 7 pm to 7 am.
  • Vehicular traffic over the bridge for heavy motor vehicle less than 12 tonnes shall be restricted to one vehicle at a time with speed limit of 5 kmph.   
  • The alternate route via Keyake (BSF camp) – Chakhabama Military Station – Kezoma – prayer park (Kidima) – Kidima has been suggested for light motor vehicle during traffic closure period.

Travel advisory between Dimapur and Piphema

In a separate update, the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithutho Sophie, issued a travel advisory asking the travellers not to commute between Dimapur and Piphema to Kohima during night hours till further notice in view of incessant heavy rainfall and thunderstorm under Kohima district.
