Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): As part of its project, team of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) from Kohima Law College attended a hearing of public interest litigation (PIL) before the division bench of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, on September 14.
It mentioned that Kohima Law College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) Charitable Trust with its office headquarters at Bengaluru, Karnataka. The MoU was signed to train underprivileged students with an aim to transform them into leading lawyers and community advocates.
An update from Kohima Law College stated that few selected students of the college would function as IDIA officials of Nagaland Chapter. IDIA project run on the backbone of highly motivated student volunteers from law colleges to identify marginalised students with an aptitude for the study of law.
It added that the volunteers would conduct sensitisation sessions in schools in the state, select underprivileged students with an aptitude for law, train them for CLAT and other competitive exams and mentor them once they are admitted to law colleges. It stated that IDIA would then train those selected scholars through a rigorous programme for the leading law entrance examinations in India. And after admission into leading Indian law schools, IDIA would support those scholars by arranging for sponsorships/ scholarships and mentorship schemes.
The assistant professor of Kohima Law College, Kezhokhoto Savi, stated that law is a powerful tool that could be deployed by underprivileged communities to help education facilitates gainful employment across many sectors. He further expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Justice and Law, government of India, New Delhi, for giving an opportunity to launch Pro Bono Club at Kohima Law College for Nagaland chapter.
