DIMAPUR — Shreya Debnath of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School Dimapur has topped the HSSLC Commerce stream with 96%, saying she had expected a rank but not the first position.
The 19-year-old plans to continue her studies in Dimapur and aims to pursue a career in banking. This is not her first academic achievement, as she had earlier secured the 16th rank in the HSLC examination.
Debnath said that she began serious preparation from the start of the academic year and focused on maintaining consistency rather than following a fixed daily schedule. “That is why I got this result,” she said.

She studied six to seven hours a day on average and said she kept distractions to a minimum. “I didn’t give much time to social media. I gave time to my studies. There’s no secret—my secret is consistency,” she said.
On challenges, she said that the pressure she faced was self-imposed. “There was no pressure from my family,” she said.
The topper added that maintaining a routine helped her manage stress. “I do everything on time, go to school, study, eat and sleep on time,” she said.
Debnath advised students not to take excessive pressure but to stay consistent in their studies. “Students should not take too much pressure but enjoy their studies and remain consistent,” she said.
She also said Accountancy was initially her most difficult subject, but she turned it into a strength through regular practice.
“I would like to thank all my teachers for being good mentors to me and all of us. I hope I made them proud,” she added.
