DIMAPUR— A day after the Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) asked the state government to address the issues of manpower shortage, lack of medical equipment and other facilities at the Community Health Centre, Shamator, the Health and Family Welfare department said that Nagaland is already facing a huge shortage of doctors, nurses and technicians as per the Indian Public Health Standard (IPHS).

Principal Director of Health department, Dr. Vibeituonuo M Sachu, in a press release, said that the creation and upgrade of health centres in the state over the years has created a huge shortage of manpower, infrastructure and equipment and the department is in the process of rationalisation of health units across the state.

“The department would, therefore, request all concern to cooperate with the department in order to address the issues for the benefits of all its citizens,” it stated.

It may be mentioned that the STPF had, in a representation to the principal director of Health department, demanded deployment of staff including medical specialists, nurses, equipment and several others facilities at CHC Shamator, which was upgraded in 2014 primarily to act as a referral centre for patients from the neighbouring health centres requiring specialised healthcare services.

The forum appealed to the department to take cognizance of the issues faced by the people and take remedial measures within one month, failing which it said “the citizens will be compelled to seek justice through various platforms and any consequences thereupon, the concerned department shall be solely held responsible.”
