Nagaland, haven of unlawful stuff

Days after dreaded Meitei based Peoples’ Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres had triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the heart of this commercial hub Dimapur three top National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants involved in the pre-Christmas massacre of Adivasis in Assam were found taking refuge in Kohima. Thanks to the leniency of the law keeping agencies towards these unwanted elements we will continue to witness such incidents. For years now Nagaland has been a haven for this unwanted stuff from the neighbouring states but the administration is still sleeping over the issue. The police personnel would be put on high alert only when an arrest is made or a blast occurs.Time and again this column has been ringing the alert bell asking the administration to do more in this front but to no avail. The administration needs to pull up its loin in addressing the matter before things go out of gear. We know the lethargy of the administration has been the sole cause. Take for example, how could PREPAK cadres carrying bulky IEDs using Manipur registration car managed to hoodwink security personnel manning several check posts between Imphal and Dimapur? These security personnel taking charge of the posts should be taken to task. Their integrity is in question.
On January 6 evening one person was seriously injured in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Erose Lane, Dimapur. The injured was identified as one Longjam Ojit Meitei (30) hailing from PREPAK. Longjam Ojit Meitei is a resident of Sabunkhok Makha Leikai, PO Lamlong under Lamlai police station of Manipur. Police also recovered two more IEDs neatly packed in tin container from a Manipur registered Maruti 800 car (MN-1A-4462) which was parked just some yards away from the blast site.
Another disturbing development is the sky-rocketing rate of criminal activities reportedly committed by IBIs (Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants) in Nagaland. This area has to be dealt with urgency by the administration.
