Nagaland has top 3 private colleges in Northeast

Kohima, April 23 (EMN): St. Joseph’s College at Jakhama in Kohima district has been ranked the first among private autonomous colleges in the Northeast, and the 56th in India, according to Education World’s ‘India Autonomous Colleges Rankings 2020-21’, with a total score of 495.

Patkai Christian College at Chümoukedima in Dimapur ranked 64th in India and second in Northeast with a total score of 485.

Kohima Science College at Jotsoma in Kohima attained the 75th rank in India and the third among the Northeast states with a total score of 473.

At the all India-level, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai topped with a score of 630 followed by St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore with 621. Ranked third was Madras Christian College, Chennai with a score of 616.

The ranking methodology shows that the colleges were examined on the following criteria: competency of faculty (200); faculty welfare and development (100); curriculum and pedagogy (100); placements (100); infrastructure and facilities (100); and leadership/ governance (100), a total score of 700.

A disclaimer on the website of Education World stated: “The Delhi-based Centre for Forecasting and Research (C fore) has taken reasonably diligent care to classify and segregate autonomous private colleges, government autonomous colleges and non-autonomous colleges based on the University Grants Commission list of approved autonomous colleges as on June 28, 2019.”

In all, 240 private autonomous colleges in India were ranked in this survey.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, the principal of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, told Eastern Mirror that the assessment was done objectively by the ranking agency. He assured that the college will continue to uphold the ‘trust of the students and the society’.
