Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): A total of 9,175 self-help groups (SHGs) have been registered in eleven districts of Nagaland and a total of 5,787 SHGs have received revolving funds (RF) as of January 28 2020.
According to information provided on the Chief Minister Dashboard, an electronic window that gives a comprehensive record of important government programmes and schemes to ensure transparency, a total of 483 village organisations (VO) were registered out of the total SHGs, and 19 SHGs were eligible for community investment fund (CIF).
Dimapur reported the highest number with 1,170 SHGs, consisting of 10,920 members, 57 VOs, and four CIFs, out of which 611 SHGs have received RFs.
According to the press information bureau (PIB), RFs of INR 10,000-15,000 per SHG and Community Investment Support Fund (CISF) of INR 2, 50,000 per SHG has been provided under the DAY-National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) programme. It added that the federations under the SHGs take up self-employment for income generation.
Self-help Groups are also linked to banks for availing loans for taking up various livelihood activities. In addition, capacity building and technical support are also provided to the target households for taking up income-generating activities both in farming and non-farming sectors.
Under the DAY-NRLM programme, rural poor women have been formed into SHGs and are continuously nurtured and supported to take up economic activities till they attain an appreciable increase in income over a period of time to improve their quality of life and come out of abject poverty.
The programme aims at ensuring that at least one woman member from each rural poor household is brought into the fold of women SHGs and their federations within a definite time frame. It is being implemented in all the states and union territories, except Delhi and Chandigarh, in phases. As of May 31 2019, 5.96 crore women have been mobilised into 54.07 lakh women SHGs under the programme across the country, the PIB informed.
It may be mentioned that on December 2019, 242 women SHGs from Dimapur 2 A/C benefited through an expo that was held in the commercial hub which was organised by the working woman project, wherein the minister for Higher and Technical Education, and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along had assured a sum of INR 1 crore from the livelihood mission scheme of the department of Tribal Affairs which will be set aside for the project.
