DIMAPUR — Director of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Kovi Meyase, informed that Nagaland has 70,000 registered unemployed youth, which ranked 4th position in India with an unemployment ratio of 9:1.

Meyase disclosed this during the 13th annual Science and Arts exhibition programme of the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) in Kohima on Saturday held at the school premises. He has termed it alarming to note that Nagaland has the highest literature rate but also, the highest unemployment rate.

An update from the school stated that Meyase has enumerated various reasons for an increase in unemployment and suggested certain measures to overcome it. To solve the unemployment problems in the state, he has suggested not only seeking government jobs but also promoting entrepreneurial skills among students, seeking jobs in the private sector, getting into blue-collar jobs, finding jobs outside the state and tapping the opportunities wherever they are.

Describing the students as ‘Gen Z,’ he encouraged them to be skilled and urged them to be humble, God-fearing and responsible.

He informed that the main objective of Science and Arts exhibition was to skill the children for future jobs. He also appreciated the students, teachers and parents for making the Science and Arts Exhibition a grand success.

In conclusion, he quoted Nelson Mandela, who once said: “The collapse of education is the collapse of the nation.”

The report stated that Meyase, besides inaugurating the Science and Arts exhibition, inspected the stalls and interacted with the students.

It stated that the students displayed their projects and put up interesting models in various fields.

The school’s principal, Fr. TP James along with Fr. Varghese PJ, Fr. Christudoss, Fr. Suresh, Linus and others were also present at the exhibition.
