National Prisons Information Portal data shows Nagaland has 510 prison inmates, with 181 in Central Jail Dimapur.
KOHIMA — Nagaland has a total of 510 prison inmates, of whom 494 are male and 16 are female, across various district jails and the Central Jail in Dimapur as of Monday, June 29, according to the National Prisons Information Portal (NPIP).
According to the data, of the total female inmates, four are in the Kohima district jail, eight in the Dimapur district jail, and one each in Mokokchung, Tuensang, Peren, and Zunheboto district jails.
The data shows that the Central Jail in Dimapur has 181 inmates. Among the district jails, there are 11 inmates in Longleng, 53 in Kohima, 32 in Mokokchung, 23 in Tuensang, 76 in Dimapur, five in Kiphire, 47 in Mon, 18 in Peren, 26 in Phek, 24 in Wokha, and 14 in Zunheboto.
Records show that of the total 16 female inmates, one is below 20 years of age, and the others are between 20 and 40 years old. Of the 494 male inmates, 28 are below 20 years of age, 31 are between 50 and 60 years, 14 are between 60 and 70 years, three are above 70 years, and the rest are between 20 and 50 years. The age group between 30 and 40 years has the highest number of inmates in Nagaland, with a total of 183.

Among other northeastern states as of June 29, Arunachal Pradesh has 690 inmates, Assam has 14,159, Manipur has 648, Mizoram has 1,884, Meghalaya has 1,618, Sikkim has 468, and Tripura has 1,689 inmates.
The portal indicates that there is no record of escaped prisoners in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Sikkim. However, Assam recorded 58 male abscondees, Tripura recorded seven, and Arunachal Pradesh recorded one.
In the country, the data shows there are 5,35,923 prison inmates as of June 29. The top seven states with the highest prison population are Uttar Pradesh (80,378), Bihar (51,378), Madhya Pradesh (44,131), Maharashtra (41,223), Punjab (33,914), Rajasthan (27,773), and Haryana (26,330).
