Kohima, Feb. 16 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, who is also in-charge of Home department, informed that there are 16 fire stations in Nagaland and four stations are under construction.

Patton was replying to a starred question raised by MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo in the ongoing 7th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday in Kohima.

He informed that North Eastern Council (NEC) is funding the fire stations in the state.

The minister stated that the work for establishment of Pfutsero fire station has already begun and in progress under NEC scheme. He, however, added that fire stations at Chozuba and Meluri will be taken up as per requirement and availability of funds.

The proposal for establishment of fire stations at Chozuba and Meluri has already been sent. Once, the department receives replies from NEC, it will start construction work in all the district headquarters, including Chozuba and Meluri sub-divisions, the minister informed.

He also pointed out that there are no criteria as such for establishment of fire stations. There is only one fire station each in most of the districts, he added.
