Nagaland has 14,830 HIV patients receiving treatment

  • DIMAPUR — As of January 2025, Nagaland is home to 14,830 people living with HIV (PLHIV) and receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART), according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s (MoSPI) publication titled ‘Women and Men in India 2024: Selected Indicators and Data.’

  • Of the total PLHIVs in the state receiving ART, 6,939 are adult males, 7,096 adult females, 384 boys, 398 girls, while 13 individuals have been identified as transgender individuals.

  • As per the Northeast state-wise distribution of PLHIV receiving ART, Mizoram has the highest number with a total of 17,392 people, followed by Assam with 17,036, Manipur with 15,186, Nagaland with 14,830, Meghalaya with 6,371, Tripura with 5,605, Arunachal Pradesh with 1,320 and Sikkim with 389.

  • According to the report, India has a total of 1,836,983 PLHIV receiving ART, comprising 906,017 adult males, 840,115 adult females, 46,925 boys, 36,452 girls, and 7,473 transgender individuals.

  • The top three states in the country with PLHIV receiving ART are Maharashtra with 3,18,492 people, followed by Andhra Pradesh (2,30,235) and Karnataka (2,01,017).
