Dimapur, March 15 (EMN): Nagaland has 11 Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) including six under ICAR institutes, four under the control of state government, one under Central University.
KVK is an agricultural extension centre created by Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and its affiliated institutions at the district level to provide various types of farm support to the agricultural sector. KVK play a vital role in conducting on-farm testing to demonstrate location-specific agricultural technologies
In India there are a total of 731 KVK out of which 38 are under the control of state governments, 66 under ICAR institutes, 103 under NGO, 506 under Agricultural Universities, three under Central Universities, three under public sector undertakings, seven under deemed to be universities and five under other educational institutions.
This was informed in a written reply by the union minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, in Lok Sabha on March 15.
In Nagaland, KVK institutes are located at Longasachung village in Wokha, Aboi in Mon, Tesophenyu in Kohima, Kuthur Seed Farm in Tuensang, Lumami in Zunheboto, Medziphema in Chümoukedima, Yisemyong SARS in Mokokchung, Jharnapani in Chümoukedima, Naga Kaho Junction at Kukphang village in Longleng, Jalukie town in Peren and Longtroktrok in Kiphire.
The technologies developed out of research conducted by ICAR are taken to farmers’ fields for its assessment by KVK to ascertain their location specificity under various farming systems. KVK also conducts a large number of technology demonstrations at farmers’ fields for their adoption by the farmers.
KVK has conducted 1.12 lakh assessment trials of technologies in farmers’ fields and 7.35 lakh demonstrations on different technologies related to crops, livestock, fisheries, farm machineries and other enterprises during the last three years.
