Dimapur, Oct. 6 (EMN): The Committee on Government Assurances, which consists of seven sitting legislators, on Tuesday expressed satisfaction at the progress of the four-lane project between Dimapur and Kohima.

The committee gave its feedback after conducting a spot verification of road works from Golaghat Road to Zion Hospital junction, and Chümoukedima Police Gate to Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) on NH-29 in Dimapur.

Led by its chairman Kuzholuzo Nienu, the committee members used core drilling machine at New Field check gate to inspect the thickness of the DBM, density, quality and voids in the DBM.

Briefing reporters after the road inspection, Nienu said that the status and the pace of work in relation to the four-lane project were “good as of now”.

He directed the contractor concerned to repair some portions of the road from New Field check gate to Zion Hospital before Christmas; and requested them to clean the roads with blowers and hoped that committee won’t be compelled to inspect the road again for want of improvement.

“It is high time that Naga people are provided with good roads; the government is serious on this, hence a committee was formed for undertaking spot verification,” said Nienu.

“Our presence here shows the seriousness of the government leaders and the department; and we will impose penalties and cancel work orders as deemed fit,” he added.

Another member of the committee, Toshi Wungtung, said that the contractors were “doing well”. He, however, urged them to provide enough space at junctions and entrances to facilitate easy traffic movement and public safety.

Other legislators present during the verification drive were Eshak Konyak, Dr. Nganshi K Ao, Keneizhakho Nakhro and Moatoshi Longkumer. They were accompanied by PWD officials.

Further, an official from the National Highways informed that the construction works will be completed by the end of November. Street lights along the highway have been installed already and they are waiting for a transformer from the Power department, he informed.

The road construction work is being undertaken by TK Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd.
