Dimapur, Dec. 8 (EMN): In an attempt to allay fears among the public regarding recent report on dengue positive cases in Dimapur, Nagaland unit of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBCP) clarified that only one tested positive out of the total eight samples from January 2020 till date.

This was stated in a press release issued by the additional director of Health and Family Welfare department and NVBCP state programme officer Dr. I Talitemsula Jamir. She stated that dengue positive confirmation is done only through Elisa test which is available only in Dimapur District Hospital and NHAK Kohima.

Jamir also stated that NVBCP conducts dengue vector study every month in and around Dimapur district adding different indices are recorded which refers to the number of dengue mosquito population. She informed that as of October and November study in Dimapur, the indices were relatively low adding fogging activities and awareness campaigns are also undertaken in vulnerable localities.

She appealed to the community/ public to remove water in all the containers around the house like flower pot bases, empty vessels, coolers, tyres, buckets etc. as dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and the eggs hatch in a week.

Public are asked to keep all water filled vessels and tanks tightly covered and remove any rubbish such as plastic cups, old containers, tyres, coconut shells etc. and to check around the compound every week.

It also advised all to sleep under the mosquito net during day and night time and to give more care to pregnant women and children. It further advised to immediately consult a doctor in case of high fever.
