Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi on Saturday visited the centrally-sponsored mulberry plantation and silk manufacturing unit at New Chungtia in Mokokchung district and also inspected the main plantation and rearing houses for silkworms and cocoons.

An update from the Raj Bhavan informed that Ravi appreciated the entrepreneurial drive of the people behind the venture which has created employment opportunities for several hundred women of the area.

The mulberry plantation and silk manufacturing unit is implemented by Samvrudi weaving units.

The governor also inaugurated the building of the Government Primary School, Akuhaiqa, which was reconstructed by the Samvrudi.

“Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed concern at the inadequate health and education infrastructures in that area and added that the children, who are our most precious future assets, should not be made into a liability due to absence of adequate growth opportunities through access to education, healthcare and proper communication,” read the press release.
