Nagaland Governor, CM extend festive greetings to Konyak, Phom, Chang communities
Dimapur: Governor of Nagaland La. Ganesan and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday extended greetings to Konyak, Phom and Chang communities on the occasion of Aoleang, Monyu and Kündanglüm festivals respectively.
“I extend my sincere Aoleang greetings to the entire Konyak community of Nagaland as they celebrate this important festival,” read his greetings.
“It is an occasion to welcome the New Year beginning with spring seasons to pray for a bountiful harvest of crops in the current year. It is also to recall the rich culture and traditional practices and honoured the significance of the day which is observed with beautiful attire with ornaments during the festival,” he added.
The governor also greeted the Phom community on the occasion of Monyu festival, which marks the arrival of New Year and to pray for a favourable sowing seeds and bountiful harvest.
“The main feature of the Monyu is the occasion when the male members of the family show love and renewal of affectionate feelings towards their married daughters or sisters by presenting them purest of the rice-beer and specially prepared food. Such conduct reflects the general status of the Phom women that ‘they are respected and honored’,” he said,
He went on to encourage the youngsters carry forward the essence of festivals, customs and traditions.
CM Rio took to Twitter to greet the Chang, Konyak and Phom communities on the auspicious occasion.
“Happy Kündanglüm to our brothers and sisters from the Chang community. Best wishes for good health, peace and prosperity and may we forge ahead into the new year with renewed vigour,” he wrote.
“Greetings to the Konyak community on the occasion of Aoleang. It is a festival which is observed after completion of sowing of seeds and to welcome the new year. May the festivities be successful and our prayers for a bountiful harvest be answered,” read his greetings for the Konyaks.
He also wrote: “Greetings to our brothers and sisters from the Phom community on the spring festival of Phom Mongyu. May the essence of the festival which is love, sharing and friendship, foster oneness and bring blessings of prosperity in the year ahead.”
