Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): The Power department, government of Nagaland, is making special effort to curb power theft in Dimapur district in order to improve revenue collection.

This was informed by the principal secretary of Power department, KD Vizo, through a press release on Friday.

It was informed that a special team headed by the additional secretary of Power department would visit Dimapur every fortnight to study ways and means of controlling power theft and improve revenue collection in the district.

Besides working on controlling power theft, the team will also monitor attendance of both office and field staff in Dimapur and Chümoukedima Electrical Divisions as well as educate the citizens to accept pre-paid metering system and adopt energy saving methods. The update stated that the team will also “educate the electrical consumers on how to pay for what they consume”.

The update went on to remind that Dimapur district consumes more than 50% of the power that is being supplied in the state but the overall revenue of the Power department is falling short due to rampant power theft in the district. It said this necessitated the urgent need to control the situation.

“As on date, proper technical mechanisms are already in place and if power theft is controlled and proper energy saving methods are adopted, there should be no overloading or load shedding in Dimapur district,” read the press release.

The department has appealed to the citizens of Dimapur to help control power theft, which will help avoid unnecessary overloading or load shedding and allow the department to provide better service to the commercial town of Nagaland.
