DIMAPUR — Following a ‘high level political’ meeting on May 9, the government of Nagaland has decided to constitute a ‘Political Affairs Committee’ (PAC) to act as a facilitator in finding an inclusive solution to the long drawn Indo-Naga political issue.

The PAC will comprise the Council of Ministers and legislative leaders from all political parties in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, according to a circular issued by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye on May 10.

“This is being initiated once again with a renewed vigour in furtherance to the spirit of the all-party opposition-less government, in pursuit of a broad consensus for an early and amicable settlement,” the circular read.

In this connection, each Legislature Party has been directed to form ‘Political Consultative Committees’ (PCCs) in consultation with their respective party organisations. These PCCs will focus exclusively on matters related to the Indo-Naga political issue and the size of these committees will vary based on the numerical strength of the respective parties in the Legislative Assembly.

Parties with 10 or more MLAs will have a 7-member committee, while those with 5 or more MLAs will have a 5-member committee. Parties with 1 or more MLAs will form a 3-member committee and independent MLAs will appoint a Convenor and Co-Convenor for this purpose, it said.
