Kohima, Sep. 10 (EMN):
The government of Nagaland on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two organisations, including a German development agency to promote strengthening and development of women entrepreneurship ecosystem in the state.

The MoU was inked between Investment Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and Dhriiti – The Courage Within at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima.

This partnership is an initiative to create an enabling ecosystem for Nagaland women entrepreneurs to thrive.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of IDAN, Alemtemshi Jamir, signed the MoU on behalf of the Nagaland government, while Julia Karst, Head of Project Her&Now, GIZ; Anirban Gupta, Advisor and Co-founder of Dhriiti; and Ullas Marar, technical expert of Project Her&Now were virtually present.

GIZ and Dhriiti – The Courage Within are already collaborating through Project Her&Now to provide support to women entrepreneurs from the Northeast region through a structured incubation and acceleration programme. It was informed that together, the programme has supported over 200 women entrepreneurs in the region while about 50 from Nagaland are being supported so far.

With learning from project implementation, the two organisations have come together to partner with IDAN to expand the scope of women entrepreneurship promotion and establish a larger network constituting different stakeholders, agents and actors that can leverage the potential of Nagaland’s women entrepreneurs, said the statement.

The partners also shared about their objective to create better environment to work with women entrepreneurs in Nagaland while appreciating the IDAN team for their support.

Alemtemshi Jamir stated that the position of women in Nagaland has always been a respectable one. However, women are hardly involved in enterprises untaken by the families and villages, he added.

Jamir said that there are some hard working women entrepreneurs who are catching up but right platforms are not given.

As such, he appreciated the organisations for reaching out to them to help venture into an area that is less travelled.

GIZ GmbH is implementing the project ‘Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women’ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, to promote women entrepreneurs under the name of ‘Her&Now’, which is being implemented in the Northeast by Dhriiti-The Courage Within.

IDAN is an investment promotion and facilitation agency established by Nagaland government in 2018 to explore, promote and facilitate all possible investment opportunities in the state.
