Nagaland government school teacher to speak at India Mobile Congress 2022

Dimapur, Sep. 24 (EMN): Keneile-Ü Suokhrie, a government school teacher, will be the face of Nagaland at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 scheduled to be held in Delhi from October 1 to the 4th.

She will speak on “innovative teaching method” at the event, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Suokhrie is a post graduate teacher in Science and teaches Zoology at Government Higher Secondary School, Tuensang. She also teaches Environment Studies for Class 12 Arts stream; and Life Skill classes for the higher secondary students.

She was selected to present her engagements with Gurushala and her innovations in teaching during the India Mobile Congress.

Gurushala is an online teacher-training and professional development initiative of Vodafone Idea Foundation and Indus Towers Ltd. being implemented by Pratham Education Foundation. It has been associated with the department of School Education, Nagaland, since November 2020 and teachers have been regularly engaging in the programme.

The initiative aims to empower teachers and administrators with knowledge and expertise through a customised, need-based learning ecosystem that supports students’ societal and academic goals.

Since Gurushala has been working with teachers to enhance their capacities, two teachers have been shortlisted across the country to represent the programme in this event. Along with Suokhrie, a teacher from Telangana will be speaking at the IMC 2022.

Suokhrie is a gold medallist in MSc (Zoology) from Nagaland University 2010 batch; she has a Masters in Public Administration; Bachelor of Education and Certificate in Environmental Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).  She is the district coordinator of the Gurushala app and a key resource person tasked with training government teachers in Tuensang under National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).

Her husband is also a government teacher posted in Dimapur, and is a mother of two sons. They are co-parenting and get to be together only once a year. While the younger son, studying in Class A, lives with her in Tuensang and the older one stays with the father and is in Class 1.

Despite being more than 300 km apart between Dimapur and Tuensang, both are committed to their duties as a teacher. ‘I am working for a cause and not for applause’, she said, adding that the distance and inconvenience for the married couple does not matter as long as they are committed to their cause.

It has been six years since she has been posted in Tuensang and despite living away from her family, her commitment towards her job ‘makes it easier’, she said.

The Government Higher Secondary School in Tuensang also achieved 100% pass result in Science stream in the HSSLC examination 2022; 29 Science students appeared for the exam and 11 students achieved distinctions.

It was also informed that four students attended the extra coaching provided by Suokhrie after class (voluntarily) while the rest of the students were provided notes and coaching online. Out of the four students who physically attended the extra coaching classes, two students received the Governor’s award at the state-level as well as the Governor’s award at eastern district-level.       

Suokhrie will be leaving for Delhi on Sunday Sep.25 and return on Oct.5 after attending the four-day India Mobile Congress 2022.
