Dimapur, March 5

Incompetent and tepid, the government of Nagaland continues to rub the people the wrong way as usual. This time, a community organization has lashed out at the government accusing it of “dyslexia” on the issue of border lands belonging to the Rengma community.
The Rengma Hoho issued a statement on Saturday, March 5 censuring the government’s “attitude” and the way it was, or not, handling the case. The traditional lands of the Rengma continue to be encroached by the Assam government and ‘illegal infiltrators’ allegedly helped by the Assam government.
“The Rengma Hoho brings the fact of its history and territories demarcations. The Rengma boundary lies with Assam in the east with Golaghat and west Naogaon. Most of our territories lies deep inside within the above mentioned places,” the Rengma Hoho stated in its statement.
The organization claimed that “in no way our land is disputed between Assam and Nagaland.”
“There is no legal documents proved that the Rengmas land is a disputed land between Assam and Nagaland. Our territories are geographically contiguous and are well defined .Our history is proved by our existence in the past and in the present which no authority can challenge,’ the organization stated.
The Rengma organization said that the Assam government and ‘infiltrators’ are encroaching the Rengma lands. “Our lands are being encroached by Assam government and forcefully occupied by the illegal infiltrators, with the help of Assam government,” the press release stated.
The Rengma Hoho stated: “Rengma’s have submitted enough documents to government of Nagaland but the dyslexia of the government on the issue is still a concern, we are disturbed by the attitude of the state government. We expect the state government to initiate to restore the Rengma areas in Assam within the administrative control of the state as there is no dispute of administration or border within the territory.”
The land should be restored to the land owners as the land belongs to the Naga people and “we have every right to administer our own area.”
The press release was appended by Kenyuseng Tep, the president of the Rengma Hoho.
