DIMAPUR — The Nagaland government is fully committed to addressing the concerns of the Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) and other challenges facing the state, affirmed Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister, Jacob Zhimomi.

Speaking to journalists following the Independence Day celebrations in Dimapur, Zhimomi stated that the government is actively engaged in consultations with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding the ENPO issue.

“We want to see everyone benefit… The state government is committed to solving any issue”, he said, assuring support for the ENPO’s pursuit of equal development.

He noted the state’s financial limitations, relying heavily on central government aid, and expressed hope for a favorable resolution aligned with the ENPO’s aspirations.

Addressing other developmental concerns, Zhimomi admitted shortcomings in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, particularly regarding premature completion certificates. While the department has completed 90 per cent pipe connectivity in the rural areas, there are some issues that need rectification and clarification, he said, adding that adequate attention would be given to address these concerns.

Regarding Dimapur’s frequent power outages, the minister stated that the concerned ministries are actively working on improving the power supply situation through various projects in the pipeline.

“It cannot be done overnight but we can assure you that we are heading to the right direction to at least give sufficient power supply to our people in Dimapur,” he maintained.

Furthermore, he touched upon the limitations posed by the state’s financial constraints, particularly the lack of revenue from income tax due to exemptions.

“We are all dependent on the government and the aid given by the central government, so accordingly, we try to do justice with the meager amount we get,” he said.

He urged citizens for patience and understanding, stating that the government is committed to bring development within its limited resources.

Meritorious service awards

During the Independence Day celebration at DDSC Stadium, four individuals from Dimapur district received awards for meritorious service: S Kakuto Chishi, (JE, Dimapur electrical division), K Akahoto Yeptho (Head constable, Superintendent of Excise and Prohibition, Dimapur), Menguzelie Rio (Head Dobashi), and Repachiba Ao (UDA, Deputy Commissioner).

The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) was also felicitated for its service and Y Pongba, a civilian, received a bravery award.
