Nagaland government bans use of posters in offices during functions
Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): The government of Nagaland has put a total ban on use of flex banners, boards, and posters by departments, institutions or agencies in government offices during functions and programmes, etc. with immediate effect.
The Urban Development Department informed through a notification that the move was taken in pursuance to the order of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, issued earlier this year.
“Flex banners/ boards/ posters are made up of Poly-Vinyl-Chlorides (PVC), a plastic polymer, which is a non-biodegradable material and if burned releases harmful toxins and gets bio-accumulated in the food chain of ecosystem causing serious hazards to human health and environment,” read the notice.
The notification further stated that use of eco-friendly materials such as cloth banners, light weight textile fabrics, wrinkle resistant wrap knit, natural-fibre based sandwich boards, resin-infused papers, particle boards, etc. may be encouraged to combat plastic pollution in the State.
It also informed all AHoDs and HoDs to disseminate the directive to all the district offices, institutions and agencies for strict compliance.
