Nagaland gets SRC-cum-hostel for rural functionaries
Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): State Resource Centre (SRC)-cum-hostel for rural functionaries was inaugurated by advisor of SIRD, Fire and Emergency Services, Relief and Rehabilitation Pohwang Konyak at the Naga United Village in Dimapur on June 7.
While addressing the gathering, Konyak urged the village leaders and officials to take good care of the newly inaugurated resource centre and hoped that it will be beneficial for the village as well as the department.
Director, State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Limasenla Jamir stated that SIRD was established in the year 1990, and being the apex training institute for rural functionaries in the state, it acts as a bridge between majority rural populations with its state functionaries by formulating and conducting need-based training programmes for the rural poor as well as creating awareness on government flagships programmes.
Jamir went on to say that SIRD works under the guidance and directions of National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) at Hyderabad and NIRDPR-NERC, Guwahati as the regional centre.
A press release from SIRD stated that it submitted a proposal for a resource centre-cum-rest house in Dimapur during 2015-16 and the foundation stone was laid on March 27, 2017, by the then parliamentary secretary for SIRD, Justice and Law Picto Shohe. The loan was subsequently released by HUDCO.
It said Dimapur being the only commercial town in Nagaland having connectivity with the rest of the country and a good location for holding events, such a centre was required in order exchange cultural ideas not only within Nagaland but also with the neighbouring states.
