Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): The Nagaland GBs’ Federation (NGBF) has appealed to the Naga political groups (NPGs) and government of India (GoI) to sort out their differences; reconsider what could be best for Nagas’ future and come to a logical conclusion without wasting any more time.
The federation mentioned that substantial change in the political equations have taken place on both sides in the last 22 years, bringing about inclusiveness in the negotiations via all Naga political groups. The federation, in a joint statement issued by its president Sahleem Konyak, general secretary Shikuto Zalipu, and information secretary Akhu Naga, stated that the new development could have paved the way for solving the much-delayed Naga political issue..
“But if in 22 years an agreement could not be reached between Government of India and Naga national political groups, it is nothing more than clamping the sword of uncertainty on the Nagas. The intentions and sincerity of both the parties engaged in the negotiations come under the cloud of doubts, fears and insecurity among the Nagas.
“If four governments of the Union of India could not find a solution, the fifth also can be expected to linger on one or the other matter. And Nagas will have to believe, that peace talks were counterproductive and with the intention of something different across both sides of the table,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, the federation has appreciated RN Ravi, deputy national security advisor and interlocutor for Naga talks, for his crucial visit to Nagaland on February 26 and 27 in response to the February 6 meeting of all tribal hohos, mass based organisations under the aegis of Nagaland GBs’ Federation for early” Naga” solution which resulted in Nagaland state bandh on February 11.
The federation also appreciated him for meeting with all the civil organisations, tribal hohos and sharing vividly about the ongoing Indo-Naga course of negotiations in the peace process.
The federation stated that RN Ravi had enunciated the status of the ongoing Naga peace talks with various organisations wherein he categorically stated except for flag and constitution, all the relevant points have been discussed and agreed upon by both negotiating parties.
While quoting news report that “Naga groups expected to reciprocate with pragmatic flexibility, the final agreement could be signed any day,” the federation on behalf of all the Naga civil societies and tribal hohos appealed to the Naga political groups and GoI to sort out the differing positions, reconsider what could be the best for the Nagas’ future and to come to a logical conclusion without wasting anymore time.
